SHOOTING ME DOWN.

Over on From Roots To Boots every Slade song recorded's lyrics have been documented, bar one! Since then, the Demo. to Shooting Me Down has surfaced and I have just been given the lyrics today by my good friend and fellow Blog Contributor, Ashley ( "A. J." ) Smith, who has painstakingly transcribed them! As I never did get the chance to add them to the appropriate post, here they are on a Blog post of their very own! : -

Shooting Me Down

( Jim Lea / Noddy Holder )

Some are bad and some are bold

Shooting me down with your hearts so cold

Get out of sight, get out of range

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

Your mother, your brother, your sister too

All wanna say what is good for you

I don't like behaving, I just don't mind

If you wanna show me a real good time

Can't you see there's a rebel in me?

Let me go, gotta let me be

Woah-oh-oh

Some are bad and some are bold

Shooting me down with your hearts so cold

Get out of sight, get out of range

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

He's looking to see ya across the room

When your eyes meet then you call the tune

I'm ready, I'm waiting, and dressed to kill

Let him look you over if he fits the bill

Can't you see when I'm biting my lip?

Wanna go, wanna let it rip

Woah-oh-oh (woah-oh-oh)

Some are bad and some are bold

Shooting me down with your hearts so cold

Get out of sight, get out of range

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

Woah-oh-oh

Can't you see there's a rebel in me?

Ah let it go, gotta let me free

Woah-oh-oh (woah-oh-oh)

Woah-oh-oh

Some are bad and some are bold

Shooting me down with your hearts so cold

Get out of sight, get out of range

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

We're getting out of sight, we're getting out of range

Shooting me down in a ball of flame

( The Chrome Molly Version, which was released as a Single in 1988! )

One of the last songs Nod and Jim wrote together in 1987.

BACKGROUND

The song was originally intended for Samantha Fox, whose label, Jive Records, approached Holder and Lea and asked them to provide a song for her upcoming album. The song was written and demoed within a couple of weeks (around May 1987) but, with Fox's latest single 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' climbing the UK Singles Chart, Jive quickly had her new album hastily packaged and ready for a July 1987 release. There was not enough time for Fox to record the song and, although Jive liked it and wished to keep hold of it for the future, the singer never recorded it.

Some newspapers later reported that Holder and Lea put the song aside as a potential comeback single for Slade. However, with the band on hiatus at the time, the song was ultimately given to the band Chrome Molly. The band's label I.R.S. Records originally asked Jim Lea and John Punter to produce one of the band's own songs as their next single. An agreement was made for Lea to produce it alone and he then forwarded Shooting Me Down to see what they thought of it. Both the band and I.R.S. liked the track and so it was recorded with Lea as producer and released as a single in November 1988. It failed to chart due to a dispute between I.R.S. and their distributors MCA Records.
